10 Days tour

Day 1 Depart Home
Depart home by flight bound for Mumbai.

Day 2 Mumbai
On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Taj Mahal Hotel for a 1-night stay. You will have a chance to freshen up before visiting the Elephanta caves. In the afternoon you have a tour of Mumbai.

The Taj Mahal Hotel is a 5-star property, with 582 air-conditioned rooms and 49 suites, all with private bathrooms and facilities to be expected in such an establishment. The Public areas include restaurant, lounge and bar areas, together with a swimming pool and a health club.

Days 3 to 5 Sasangir National Park
Today you fly to Keshod and transfer to Sasangir National Park. Sasangir are today the last stronghold of the Asiatic Lions. At present the Sanctuary is said to support about 300 Lions in stable eco-system which harbours over 32 species of reptile. Apart from Asiatic Lion, the park is also famous for large numbers of leopard. Other predators include hyena, jackal and Jungle Cat. These are supported by a healthy prey-base composed of Sambar and Chital, Chinkara Gazelle, 4-horned, and Bluebull Antelope, Wild Boar and common Langurs. There may also be the chance to visit a settlement of Maldharis cattle-herders who have evolved a close relationship with the Lions.

You spend 3-nights at Gir Lodge, situated by the river on the edge of Gir Forest. All 31 rooms and suites here are comfortably furnished, with private facilities and air-conditioning or fans. There is tennis and badminton available, as well as a fitness center!

Days 6 to 8 Zainabad & Little Rann of Katchh
After breakfast you have a long but interesting drive to Zainabad, Saurashtra and Rajasthan still support some of the most traditional societies in India who have their preserved life-styles, crafts and clothes providing unique photo opportunities. Spend 3-nights at the Desert Coursers Resort, which was set up in 1984 by the descendants of Nawab Zainkhan and still managed by the family today. The lakeside environmentally friendly cottages are known as koobas, and provide comfortable accommodation with private facilities. Local cuisine is served buffet-style in the dinning room.

In the desert state of Gujarat, slightly north of Gir lies the Little Rann of Katchh, a unique habitat of saltpans and seasonal salt, marsh and home of the last remaining population of Indian Wild Ass. There will be the chance to follow and photograph these handsome mammals and perhaps even enjoy the thrill of a herd at full gallop. The wetlands are a paradise for wintering birds and you may see Demoiselle, and Sarus Cranes, Painted Storks, Royal Spoonbills, Flamingoes, herons, gulls, terns and a variety of raptors.

Day 9 Mumbai
Return to Mumbai in time for dinner and a chance to freshen up, before being transferred to the airport for your flight back to home.
