18 days tour

Day 1. Depart Home
Depart home by flight bound for Delhi.

Day 2. Delhi
On arrival in the early morning. You will be transferred to the Oberoi Maidens Hotel for a chance to freshen up before spending the morning or afternoon exploring this bustling city. With a tour of Old and New Delhi. The rest of the day is free for you to relax.

The Oberoi Maidens is situated in Old Delhi, and is set amid 3 hectares of emerald green lawns near the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. The hotel played host to the Duke of Windsor in 1927, when a wall was held in his honour, and it was here that Lutyens, the architect of the city, stayed when New Delhi was being built in the 1930’s. It has a large swimming pool, 2 tennis courts, beauty salon, barber shop, chemist, book shop, restaurant, coffee shop, bar and poolside bar for light snacks and refreshments. Each air –conditioned bedroom has en-suite facilities, telephone and mini-bar.

Days 3 to 6. Kanha National Park
This morning you fly to Nagpur and transfer by road to Kanha Tiger Reserve and Wild Chalet Resort. Situated in central India in the Satpura Hill ranges, Kanha offers without a doubt, India’s finest Tiger viewing. Grasslands and deciduous forests also support Barasingha, Chital, Muntjac, Sambar, Common Langur, and Rhesus Monkeys, Wild Boar, Asiatic Jackal, 3 of India’s 4 lowland antelopes (Nilgai,4-horned Antelope and Blackbuck), and occasionally Leopard, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Wolf and Wild Dog, Birdlife present includes the Painted Partridge, Shaheen Falcon, Golden Oriole and the omnipresent Red Jungle Fowl.

Perched on the banks of the River Banjer on the periphery of Kanha Tiger Reserve, the sprawling 4 hectare Wild Chalet Resort commands a magnificent view of the river with a backdrop of lush forest. There are 42-bedroom cottages and comfortable, although basic, each having en-suite facilities with hot water, and a fan. Safaris will be on elephant-back and by jeep.

Days 7 to 10 Bandhavgarh National Park
Today you make the long transfer by road to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. This was formerly a Royal hunting reserve of the state of Rewe where the first wild White Tiger was found. Mammals here include Chital, Sambar, Muntjac, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chowsingha, Wild Boar, Leopard, Wild Dog and of course Tiger. Birdlife also abounds with over 275 species of bird including hornbills, orioles, parakeets, peacocks, and eagles.

You spend 4-nights at Tiger Trails Resort which is approximately 2 kilomertres from Bandhavgarh National Park, and is comprised of 122-bedroom cottages spread over a 4 hectare site, each with en-suite facilities. There is also a well-stocked library, restaurant and bar area. The lodge overlooks a private lake, which attracts a variety of resident and migratory birds. You may take safaris into the park on Elephant-back and by jeep.

Days 11 to 12 Agra
Transfer by road to Khajuraho to connect with the flight to Agra. On arrival in Agra, you will be met and transferred to the Trident Hotel, where you will be based for 2-nights. The Trident is a first-class hotel set in beautiful landscaped gardens. The hotel combines traditional Mughal architecture with all the amenities of a modern hotel. It is built around a central courtyard with a swimming pool and elegant fountains, and there is a restaurant, bar, beauty salon, barber shop and bookshop. Each bedroom has en-suite facilities, with telephone, television and mini bar.

The next morning, depart on a tour of Agra and one of the 8 wonders of the world, The Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal was built as a monument of love by the Mughal Emperor Shah-jehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz mahal, to enshrine her mortal remains. For 22 years, 20,000 men laboured day and night to build this masterpiece, which had held the world, awe-struck ever since. Meanwhile at Agra Fort, where Shah Jehan was imprisoned by his son, you will the magnificent white marble that has make the area so famous, also the Pearl Mosque, the halls of Public and Private Audience and also the tomb of itmad-ud-daula, built by the Empress Noorjehan in memory of her father. Nearby, the long deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri is also well worth a visit.

Days 13 to 16 Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
Today you board the train to Sawai Madhopur where you will be met and transferred to Sher Bagh and Ranthamore Tiger Reserve. Situated in Rajasthan, Ranthambore’s rolling hills, dry dhok forest and tranquil lakes, decorated with the crumbling ruins of numerous temples and a hilltop fort, possess all the princely splendour of this famous Rajput State. The birdlife here is also excellent, particularly around the lakes where you will also have the opportunity to view the famous Marsh Mugger Crocodiles. Staying at Sher Bagh (a deluxe tented camp owned by Valmik Tahpas family of ‘Land of the Tiger’ fame ) will put you in the best position to view Tiger in this beautiful reserve.

Sher Bagh is situated at the edge of Ranthambore National Park along its Northern Periphery. The camp consists of 10 luxurious rooms tents in a style originally designed for the Maharaja of Jodhpur at the turn of the century. Such tents were used on hunting expeditions and also catered for an overspill of guests at the palace during royal visits. Each tent has a verandah and bathroom with hot and cold running water, and electricity. Meals are served in the dining tent and much of the produce is organically grown locally.

Safaris are by jeep only in Ranthambore where you will be accompanied by one of the local camp trackers.

Days 17 to 18 Homeward

After a morning game drive you transfer back to train station for the journey to Delhi. After dinner and a short night’s rest at the Ashok Country Resort, You transfer to the airport in the early hours, for your flight to home.
